Cities Skylines 2: Modding & Assets
Cities Skylines 2: Modding & Assets
Last week, Paradoxplaza promised an update on Cities: Skylines 2 modding. The Editor is in development, and Paradoxplaza shared an updated version with the closed Modding Beta group for feedback last Friday. Currently, it supports map creation and code modding, and they are preparing for an initial release. They continue to expand the modding tools over the game’s lifetime, just as Paradoxplaza did with the first Cities: Skylines.
Currently, the asset import feature isn’t available, so creators can’t bring their own assets into the game. Paradoxplaza will introduce this feature to our Modding Beta group once it’s ready. When the Editor’s asset section is complete, they’ll fill Paradox Mods with fantastic Region pack assets from our talented creators. These assets are impressive, and you’ll enjoy choosing the ones that best suit your cities. If you haven’t already, watch the Region Pack teaser here:
Paradoxplaza is working hard to release the Editor as soon as possible, and they’ll keep you updated on progress. While it may take a couple of months to get it ready, they can’t provide a specific timeline to avoid making promises Paradoxplaza can’t keep. After the Editor is out, they’ll continue to improve it based on your feedback, prioritizing the most requested features. Also excited to see your creations and Cities Skylines 2 mods!
For the console version, Paradoxplaza is making sure all planned Editor features are available upon release, allowing you to keep pace with PC players. The console Editor will closely resemble the PC version, except for code modding and asset importing, which are not possible on consoles. However, you can still download user-created assets from Paradox Mods and create custom maps. They are actively working on performance improvements for the console version, and it will be ready for you in the first half of 2024.
In the last three weeks, Paradoxplaza has been pushing out patches quickly. There’s one more patch coming soon, but after that, they’ll be focusing on larger, time-consuming fixes. The Paradoxplaza team is currently working on improving GPU performance by fine-tuning Level of Detail (LOD). While it’s a significant task, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, and it will take some time. This means the game won’t have weekly patches in the future. For more updates, please check our upcoming Word of the Week posts, which I’ll be sharing regularly until further notice.
