Cities: Skylines 2: What frame rate (FPS) can you expect?
At launch, Cities: Skylines 2 turned out to be a massive hog for your computer’s resources. Prior to the release, German testers from PCGamesHardware ran a benchmark test on a good gaming machine, with an Intel i9-11900K processor, and a GeForce RTX 3080 card.
Even with a high-end PC from 2021, Cites: Skylines 2 will give you 15-40 FPS on medium graphics settings, and pretty strong frame rate fluctuations. This means a choppy and unenjoyable gaming experience. For older and weaker PCs, the results will be even worse.
That being said, we expect the developers of Cities: Skylines 2 to work hard to optimize this game to work on less powerful PCs. So, with every single update, additional optimizations should be applied. As the game is pretty brand new, it’s difficult to tell exactly how the Cities: Skylines 2 experience will look like on your PC.
However, the game is quickly being adapted to work on PS5 and Xbox, both significantly less powerful than recommended PC specs. So, if your PC meets the minimum requirements, you should be fine in the long term – the performance should only get better.
