How to convert Cities Skylines Mods to Cities Skylines 2
Like many of the old Cities: Skyline modders, are you wondering whether the new game will support the old CS1 mods? Or will there be an option to convert mods from CS1 to CS2?
So we’ve done some analysis on the web and unfortunately it seems that Cities: Skyline 2 has been completely redesigned from the ground up, so the mods will be very different from the old Cities: Skyline.
We have also found a report confirming this, which is well explained by the game developers themselves:
Will CS1 mods be usable in CS2?
No, mods from Cities: Skylines are not compatible with Cities: Skylines II. It is built on an entirely new codebase and its fidelity is vastly different. As such, it requires its own unique mods. With that said, some of the best mods creators from Cities: Skylines have early access to the sequel and who knows – perhaps they are already working on a new version of your favourite Mod for Cities: Skylines II.
And we also tried to dig deeper, and found a Twitter message by Colossal Order:
Cities: Skylines 2 has been built from scratch to improve on all aspects of city-building. This means the code architecture is different, and mods or assets from Cities: Skylines would need to be remade or adapted for Cities: Skylines 2.
So there is no doubt that Cities Skylines mods cannot be used in Cities Skylines 2 game.
But don’t lose hope, and maybe the mod creators will come up with a way to convert CS1 mods and adapt them to the new CS2 game. Stay tuned and we will share it as soon as it comes up.
